  • Semaun Holdings is the investment and trading arm of the government in enhancing economic diversification programs of Brunei Darussalam. It is fully funded by the Government of Brunei. It was established under Brunei Darussalam Companies Act as a private limited company on December, 8th 1994.

    Semaun Holdings has achieved a track record of successful launching of joint ventures with overseas from Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, in areas such as aquaculture, food processing and fine glass crystal manufacturing. Local companies are also involved in the joint ventures.

  • Bandar Seri Begawan - Members of the State Legislative Council (LegCo) yesterday held a goodwill visit to the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR).

    According to a press release, the objectives of the goodwill visit amongst others were to disseminate the main roles, responsibilities and core business of the Ministry and to provide an opportunity for members of the State Legislative Council as representatives of the public, to air any grievances or concerns to the Government.

    It also aimed to foster greater cooperation and effective information exchange as well as to establish friendly ties with the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, heads of department, divisions and units under the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

  • Bandar Seri Begawan - In an effort to increase crop yield, especially through paddy plantation, the Government of His Majesty through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mitsubishi Corporation on "Cooperation and Collaboration in the Development and Improvement of Agricultural Technology and Practices in Brunei Darussalam".

    Present to witness the signing ceremony as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources. Also in attendance were Mr Noriki Hirose, the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, and Hjh Normah Suria Hayati binti PJDSMDSU (Dr) Hj Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

    Signing on behalf of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood Department was Hajah Aidah binti Hj Mohd Hanifah, Acting Director of Agriculture and Agrifood Department, who was witnessed by Pg Hjh Rosidah binti Pg Hj Metussin, Acting Deputy Director of Agriculture and Agrifood Department. While on the Mitsubishi Corporation side, Mr Takashi Kuroko, Vice President of Brunei Project Unit, inked the agreement witnessed by Mr Osamu Ito, General Manager of Brunei Liaison Office.

    The cooperation aims to increase crop production through the improvement of farm management by conducting a field survey and soil investigation in Temburong, Tutong and Brunei-Muara Districts to develop better cultivation techniques and fertiliser application methods through experimental cultivation in Temburong, Tutong and Brunei-Muara; and to give advice on cultivation and the use of fertilisers for the government's Junjungan rice field project or other projects to be nominated by the government and agreed by Mitsubishi Corporation.
